Nibung
Nibung (Oncosperma tigillarium syn. O. filamentosum) is a type of palm that grows in the swamps of Southeast Asia, from Indochina to Borneo.
This plant is a palm tree with distinctive shapes: rods are not or rarely branched, it can reach 25m, can raise chicks that meeting, forming a collection of up to 50 rods. Stems and leaves are protected by a long hard black spines. Pinnate compound leaves are composed of single (pinnatus) a memorable decorative.
Nibung rotted wood extremely resistant so used to buffer the homes on the banks of the river in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Archaeological findings in the area of Jambi shows the remains of the wooden houses of this buffer above the peat soil of the township until the 11th century to the 13th. The wood is also used for fishing nets (in Kalimantan).
